Your journey into medieval fantasy combat begins here
The first step is to locate your nearest Amtgard Chapter (also called a "Park"). We have Chapters across Canada that meet regularly, usually on weekends.
Scroll down to see our Chapter locations, or use the Chapter finder page to see each Chapter's meeting times and locations.
There is also a way to use your location to find the closest Chapter:
Just show up! No reservation needed. We recommend wearing comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes. For your first visit, you don't need to bring anything special - we have loaner equipment for newcomers.
When you arrive, introduce yourself as a new player, and someone will help get you started.
Amtgard is a physical activity, so all players need to sign a waiver. If you're under 18, you'll need a parent or guardian to sign for you.
You can download the waiver below and bring it with you, or sign one when you arrive.

Don't worry about learning everything at once - our experienced players will guide you through the process.

Check out our equipment guides for detailed instructions on making your own gear.
Amtgard is free to play! There are no mandatory fees to participate in weekly park days. Some players choose to pay optional dues, $10 for each six (6) month period, to support the chapter and gain voting rights, but this is not required to play.
Safety is our top priority. All weapons are made of foam with a lightweight core and must pass safety inspections. We have strict rules about hit strength and target areas. Like any physical activity, there is some risk of minor injuries (bruises, twisted ankles, etc.), but serious injuries are rare.
Players must be at least 14 years old to participate in combat. Children under 14 can participate in non-combat activities with parent/guardian supervision. Players under 18 need their waiver signed by a parent or guardian.
Not at all! Amtgard welcomes players of all fitness levels and abilities. While combat can be physically demanding, there are many roles and classes that don't require high athleticism. You can participate at your own pace and comfort level.
For your first visit, comfortable clothes you can move in and closed-toe shoes are all you need. Athletic wear, t-shirts and sweatpants, or similar casual clothes are perfect. Medieval garb is not required for newcomers, though you'll likely want to start acquiring or making some as you continue playing.
